I am a Photo Organizer!
Wait – what the heck does that mean and what do I do?
Do you ever feel like that? There are so many components to photo organizing that you may not be sure where to start or what to offer.
Or does this ever happen? Every time you tell someone what you do they ask if you do something else, and you think…
“Well yes – I can do that too!”
And that is where we need to STOP and ask ourselves these three questions:
- What services am I passionate about?
- What services am I good at and want to master?
- What services are my money makers?
I remember when I first started this profession (about three years ago) I was certain the only thing I wanted to offer was album design. But before I had identified my ideal client, one of my first clients asked me to convert 17 VHS tapes to DVD. I said “Sure, I can do that!” I was excited to have my first client so I bought a VHS converter and completed the job. Immediately after I did that I took a step back and asked myself the above three questions. Based on my answers, I researched and found a local, reputable professional who is a master at all media conversions and now I outsource all media jobs to him.
I have since broadened my scope of money makers to these three services:
- Album Design
These services met the criteria to the above questions. Not only am I passionate about those services, I also enjoy learning and improving and all three are profitable! Remember though, I got there by making some mistakes first.
Sometimes we are so excited to get that first client that we commit to tasks we have no interest or expertise in doing. We can still offer the service but in a much smarter way. Research to find a local resource that you can either refer the business to or outsource that part of the project to someone who specializes in a service. It can save you time and equipment investment but still allow you to help your client.
Let me know what services you are passionate about in the comments below…or share a story where you learned what you did not want to offer.
