If you are a seasoned reader of our blog you know that we like to share business strategies and formulas to help build success in your photo organizing businesses. One of those strategies is to seek out local companies and other small businesses to do business with! I’m happy to share a local company I discovered here in Portland, Oregon. Owning my own business for 15+ years has made me have a strong alliance to supporting local businesses; when I came across Plywerk, I not only took advantage of their “newbie” deal, but arranged a visit to their studio.
Kjell, the owner, was a lovely host. He gave me a tour of the facility and educated me on the types of wood they use (bamboo, maple and walnut) all sustainably harvested – (it’s Oregon, what else would you expect?). I also saw the meticulous process of adhering the photos to the wood and the exquisite care the designer took to ensure that each product was perfect.
As photo organizers, we know that there are many options for displaying photographs. We are all familiar with frames and canvases, Plywerk has some unique display products and is fun too!! Check out Maggie and Stanley and for those who enjoy a Saturday afternoon project, Blank Panels. My 5×5 Plywerk is a favorite photo of our family on top of Half Dome at Yosemite.
As you build your business, develop relationships with local vendors and remember you don’t have to make money on every single vendor you use. Sometimes your WOW delivery and introduction to a new product is all you need to keep building a strong relationship with your client. Please let us know in the comments below what great people and products you have come across when connecting with your local companies.
