As a child I remember the days of running to the mailbox – always excited to see what the mailman brought. I remember my dad (returning from a day at work) asking my mom, “What did we get in the mail?” It was a family event.
Fast forward a couple years (OK 30+ years) and things have certainly changed. Today I usually go 3-4 days without bothering to get the mail (unless I am expecting something). When I actually get the mail I must admit I feel a tiny bit excited if I see what appears to be a handwritten letter addressed to me.
I immediately look at the return address label to see if I know the sender; if at that time I realize the handwriting was computer generated and I was punk’d then into the recycle bin it goes. However, if it is a “real” authentic handwritten piece of mail I open it right there, stopping mid-step as I walk back to the house. I am truly excited about what is in the envelope.
Personal handwritten notes are priceless
And this is the key reason I send handwritten thank you cards to my photo organizing clients. If it even elicits a slight bit of joy it is 100% worth it.
Insider Marketing Tip: Always send your client an old-fashioned handwritten note of appreciation, whether it is at the beginning of the project, middle or at the end. Send a note card to thank your client if they send a lead your way. These small acts of appreciation are something that people remember – and guess what – if they remember you and your professionalism, it is likely that they will recommend you and think of you whenever they (or someone else) needs your service.
Bottom line, this small and inexpensive effort shows that you care and it continues to build the “know, trust and like” components of successful relationships.
