Digital frames have come a long way since they first came out. They make a perfect gift for your own home or office or for a long distance family or friend.
We both were looking at wi-fi digital frames for our VIP photo organizing clients and thought this was great timing to share what we learned about two different companies.
We were specifically looking for these things:
- easy setup
- display quality
- cloud storage
- sharing options

Rita’s feedback: I like the size of this frame. It can be displayed either vertically or horizontally – however, it does not automatically rotate the photos to the correct orientation. To adjust the frame configuration to meet your individual needs you need to login to your account. Changes can be made using the remote however, I feel that most people would consider this too time consuming and overwhelming. When you receive a photo emailed to you a notification pops up on the screen. The remote allows you to open the photo and read the message (if included). I thought this was a nice feature especially taking into consideration the users. It is nice to know something about a new photo versus it just appearing on the frame.
Sherra’s feedback: The first photos I uploaded and then played also showed the pre-loaded photos that came with the frame. That took extra time to get rid of those. There are too many menu choices on the screen. I don’t like how the date and time display on the frame so I turned it off but had to search several menus to find where to do that. I couldn’t figure out a way to control which album played on the frame so I went back to the website and found a way to select a specific album. The interface feels a little clunky to me.
Additional features: Frame comes in two sizes 10.5 or 15 inch. You can link external web albums from Facebook, Google+, RSS photo feeds, etc. Your frame can display local weather and also play your favorite internet radio stations and can also receive video clips.

Rita’s feedback: This frame relies on a flexible cable to stabilize it either vertically or horizontally and I love that the photos automatically rotated with a simple turn of the frame! The different photo collections called “playlists” that I uploaded stayed separated and in the order uploaded, keeping my storytelling preserved. The upload from my external web albums was very quick, and once I selected the albums to display they were instantaneously on the frame. The set-up security for approving photos from friends/family was easy to manage from the web account where you register your frame.
Sherra’s feedback: The simplicity of this frame with no buttons on back or front and a super simple remote makes this a great choice for anyone wants plug and play easy setup. There are very few choices and the frame just works right out of the box. I am not a fan of the power cable as the frame stand and recommend using a small easel instead.
Additional features: Frame comes in three sizes 7, 8 and 10 inch. The motion sensor means the frame comes on when someone enters the room so it

Sherra’s feedback: I had a third frame to test which was a Nixplay Edge model. The big difference between this frame and their Seed frame is that the Edge does have a USB slot and Micro SD card slot. Setup was very similar and easy. I do like to have the flexibility to be able to insert a flash drive or camera card to view photos or video.
Additional features: Frame comes in two sizes 8 and 13 inch. Motion sensor just like the Seed.
Summary: Keeping our photo organizing clients in mind – we loved that both frames are free of subscription services, displayed photos brilliantly on the screens and met our (client) objective of easily sharing photos. An 8 inch frame seems a little small and we both would recommend a 10 or 13 inch frame size. Pix-Star has more features including weather & radio playlist integration for the client who wants those additional features. Nixplay frames are our choice for ease of set-up, less overwhelm and a straight-forward web interface.
