Today I came home to 4 very large (moving size) boxes on my porch. I quickly scoured my mind wondering what did I buy, what did my husband buy, or worse…what did my kids buy?? The boxes were not branded so I checked the return address label to see who they were from…a USPS store in New York. My brain is still going a mile a minute, nothing is clicking. I open one of the peanut filled boxes and discover, wrapped in kraft paper, photos in frames from a client in Cambridge. Without telling me (or asking me) he had photos from his parent’s house (they were recently deceased) sent to me.
Hmmm, I am a bit surprised, bewildered and need to figure out what his intentions were in shipping me these BIG boxes since we live in a small house!!
So I call him and he shares a long story, but the bottom line is the company that was scanning the photos for him had done a mediocre job and he wanted me to scan them instead. His words were “I prefer your premium service.” (I met this client a month ago and am currently organizing his personal digital collection)
“I prefer your premium service.”
Those words stuck with me. And they obviously resonated with my client. Do you want your clients to “prefer your premium service”? Here are 3 tips:
- Invest in yourself so that your confidence propels you to have the courage to “own” your business and your unique offerings.
- Paint a picture. Describe whatever service you offer as premium, luxury, boutique, etc…and then deliver it with that same elegance.
- Stand out. Do things differently. Be memorable. This should be the goal of every small business owner!
