After you have created your ideal client profile, it’s also important to know and evaluate the quality of clientele you want to work with.
If we have to put people in categories…and sometimes we do, why not clearly define client categories for your business. The two easiest categories for me are these:
- VIP = very important person
- PIB = pain in butt
Category #2 doesn’t really require explanation.
Sure, there are many categories in between but these two are clear.
Most people would like to be thought of as a VIP. They like a luxury experience and special perks. They appreciate paying for value.
I made a decision early in my business to work with VIPs.
I’ll pass on working with PIBs, thank you very much.
Choose wisely. Life is short.
P.S. I know a VIP can turn into a PIB. It’s good to have a strategy in place to “break up” with PIB clients. You may have to be prepared to say something like this,
“I’ve helped you as much as I can and my calendar is too full for us to continue working together.”
Do you make sure your clients know that they are VIPs?
